Katie Taylor is expected to have the final fight of her career on September 5 at Croke Park in Dublin, where she will face unbeaten French fighter Flora Pili for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title.
Taylor currently holds the WBO, IBF and WBA belts at 140lbs, and victory over Pili would make her undisputed champion for the third time. The WBC belt became vacant after Sandy Ryan stepped away from boxing to have a child.
The 39-year-old has long dreamed of headlining Croke Park, and now her farewell is set for Ireland’s 82,000-seat national stadium - a fitting stage for one of the most important fighters in women’s boxing history.
Pili is unbeaten and has won the French, European and IBO junior welterweight titles, but this is a massive step up. Taylor has shared the ring with names such as Amanda Serrano, Chantelle Cameron, Delfine Persoon, Natasha Jonas, Jessica McCaskill and Christina Linardatou.
