Joshua Buatsi is officially a free agent after Boxxer confirmed the expiration of their promotional agreement, clearing the way for the former light-heavyweight contender to join Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions.

“Joshua Buatsi’s promotional contract with Boxxer expired at the end of February. His final fight under the Boxxer banner was his bout against Callum Smith. Joshua Buatsi is a free agent. Boxxer wish him well in his future endeavours,” the company said in a statement.

Buatsi, 32, suffered his first professional defeat in February when Smith out-pointed him, a result that closed his tenure with Boxxer. Yahoo Sports reports that talks are already under way for the 2016 Olympic bronze-medallist to sign with Queensberry, which would reignite hopes for a long-anticipated domestic showdown with London rival Anthony Yarde. Yarde is scheduled to meet David Benavidez in Riyadh on November 22.

The development also raises fresh questions about Boxxer’s future following the recent conclusion of its broadcast deal with Sky Sports.
