Tyson Fury’s father, John Fury, has made striking comments about his son ahead of his April 11 return against Arslanbek Makhmudov, claiming the former heavyweight champion is “past his best” and revealing that their relationship is now “destroyed.”
Speaking to the Daily Mail, John Fury said that Tyson has not been the same fighter since his trilogy with Deontay Wilder, despite winning two of those bouts. He added that too many people around Fury continue to build him up unrealistically, insisting that his son is no longer at his peak.
Fury is set to return to the ring at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following a period of inactivity that came after consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, where he lost both his undefeated record and his WBC title. According to his father, the issues began before their first meeting, when he advised Tyson not to proceed with the fight due to fatigue from training camp.
John Fury also criticized Tyson’s preparation and decision-making, stating that insufficient recovery between camps contributed to his decline.
Adding to the tension, John Fury confirmed that his personal relationship with Tyson has broken down completely. Meanwhile, Tyson has been preparing for his comeback in Thailand and has suggested he may enter the ring without a trainer, though that remains unconfirmed as he gears up to face Makhmudov.
