Joe Joyce has opened up about his financial situation, admitting that he is not currently in a position to retire from boxing despite a difficult run of results.
The 40-year-old has lost five of his last six fights and was recently stopped in the 11th round by Artem Suslenkov, leaving him outside BoxRec’s top 50 heavyweights.
“After the year I’ve had, financial literacy is close to my heart,” Joyce said. “With the platform I have as a professional boxer, I owe it to my fans and to the next generation to set an example.”
Joyce had already revealed that he was “not in a position to retire right now financially,” despite earning significant purses during a career that included major fights against Daniel Dubois, Joseph Parker, Zhilei Zhang, Derek Chisora and Filip Hrgovic.
He has not provided a detailed breakdown of his finances, so it remains unclear how his earnings were managed or where losses may have occurred.
Joyce says he plans to speak more openly about his experience, hoping his situation can help younger fighters better understand the importance of protecting their earnings during a short and unpredictable career.
