Jermall Charlo is set to challenge Armando Resendiz for the WBA super middleweight title in the co-main event to Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez’s unified cruiserweight title defense against David Benavidez at T-Mobile Arena as part of a PBC Pay-Per-View event on Prime Video.

Charlo will attempt to become a three-division world champion when he faces Resendiz. The 35-year-old previously held world titles at junior middleweight and middleweight, but has fought only four times since 2020. His most recent outing came in December when he stopped Thomas LaManna after returning from an 18-month layoff.

Resendiz will be making the first defense of his WBA title. The 27-year-old earned the interim belt with a surprising victory over Caleb Plant last May before being elevated to full champion following the retirement of Terence Crawford in December.

Discussions for the matchup began after a proposed bout between Resendiz and Jaime Munguia reportedly fell apart. Resendiz’s victory over Plant had already disrupted plans for a fight between Charlo and the former champion.

The Mexican contender first gained attention in 2023 with a knockout win over Jarrett Hurd. After suffering a stoppage loss to Elijah Garcia in his next fight, Resendiz rebounded with a victory over Fernando Paliza before shocking Plant to capture the interim title and position himself for the upcoming clash with Charlo.
