WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo was arrested following a traffic collision on Monday in Pearland, Texas. He faces three misdemeanor charges: driving while intoxicated, fleeing a police officer, and leaving the scene of a crash. Efforts to contact Charlo’s attorney and WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman were unsuccessful as they did not immediately respond to inquiries.

Previously considered as a contender against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, Charlo has faced challenges in maintaining his boxing career momentum, defending his title only once in the last three years. He has also publicly shared his struggles with depression during this period. At 33, Charlo recently fought over the middleweight limit, defeating Jose Benavidez Jr. by unanimous decision.

Despite calls for stripping Charlo of his championship due to inactivity, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has maintained support for him as champion. The incident leading to his arrest involved a collision where Charlo, reportedly driving a red Lamborghini, fled the scene after an argument with another driver. He was apprehended by police at a red light approximately a mile away from the crash site.
