Australian boxing legend Jeff Fenech has made a bold statement about his new partnership with Tim Tszyu, claiming the former world champion has the potential to become the greatest fighter his country has ever produced.

Fenech, a three-weight world champion and one of Australia’s most respected figures in the sport, was recently confirmed as Tszyu’s new trainer. While such praise might sound exaggerated from others, Fenech’s reputation gives weight to the claim - and he didn’t hesitate when outlining his belief in Tszyu’s ceiling.

“I believe he can be Australia’s greatest fighter,” Fenech said, emphasizing that his motivation is not financial but rooted in helping Tszyu reach his full potential.

Tszyu finds himself at a critical point in his career. Once on a strong upward trajectory, his momentum was disrupted by his loss to Sebastian Fundora, a fight in which he suffered a severe cut early and never fully recovered. Further setbacks followed, including a rematch defeat, before recent wins helped steady his position.

Fenech believes those losses were not a reflection of Tszyu’s ability, but rather of preparation and in-fight adjustments. He suggested that with the right guidance, Tszyu could even reverse past results.

“If I was in his corner… he’d still be world champion today,” Fenech said, pointing directly to the first Fundora fight as a missed opportunity.

The focus now shifts to what comes next, with Tszyu expected to face Errol Spence Jr. later this year, as that fight could define whether this new partnership delivers immediate results or requires more time to take shape.
