A troubling incident unfolded on the undercard of Lester Martinez vs. Immanuwel Aleem, as 19-year-old prospect Isis Sio was placed in a medically induced coma following a first-round knockout defeat.
Sio was stopped just 78 seconds into the opening round by Jocelyn Camarillo, a former three-time national amateur champion, who trapped her on the ropes and unleashed a sustained barrage. The sequence ended with Sio collapsing and remaining unconscious for several minutes, before being stretchered out of the ring.
A statement released by ProBox TV confirmed the severity of the situation. “Ms. Sio is currently in a medically induced coma,” the statement read. “Our thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time… please join us in wishing for a full recovery.”
Camarillo, despite the emphatic win, struck a respectful tone afterward. “I came prepared and gave it my all… but my heart is with Isis,” she said. “I’m keeping her in my prayers.”
Sio had only recently turned professional in 2025 and entered the bout with a 1-3 record, still in the early stages of her development. Her lone win came by decision last November, and she had been gaining experience against increasingly tough opposition.
The fight took place early in the evening in California, before Martinez went on to defeat Aleem in the main event. Further updates are expected, with the boxing world now hoping for one thing above all - that she pulls through.
