Michael Conlan is deep into training camp ahead of his upcoming fight with Kevin Walsh on Friday night at the SSE Arena in Belfast, with his routine built around discipline, repetition, and a clear long-term goal.
Camp life in Sheffield has been structured and intense, consisting of running, training, and recovery, with moments of downtime filled by playing Call of Duty. Conlan admits he is no longer at the level he once was during lockdown, but still uses gaming as a way to switch off between sessions. His days are carefully managed, often splitting gaming into short periods around training and media duties before winding down early in the evening.
Outside of boxing and gaming, Conlan has also revisited familiar routines such as watching television series, currently rewatching Breaking Bad. He acknowledges that younger gamers have faster reactions, but sees his gaming hobby as temporary, something that will end alongside his boxing career.
Despite the monotony and sacrifice of camp, Conlan finds clarity during solitary runs and time spent alone. It is in those moments that he reinforces his purpose, reminding himself why he continues to push through the demands of the sport.
“I’m going to be world champion. It’s as simple as that,” Conlan said. That mindset remains central as he prepares for Walsh, knowing that each fight brings him closer to achieving that goal.
