Eddie Hearn, the renowned boxing promoter, is setting his sights on a long-lasting collaboration with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez following the latter’s departure from Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). The split comes after Alvarez’s brief stint with PBC, where he had only completed one bout out of a three-fight contract, a decision victory over Jermell Charlo last September. Hearn, whose promotional ties extend to DAZN and include fighters like Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia, is keen on rekindling the promoter-fighter relationship with Alvarez.
In a recent conversation with the MMA Hour, Hearn expressed his enthusiasm about the prospect of Alvarez returning to Matchroom and DAZN, hinting at ongoing discussions between the two parties. While nothing is confirmed, Hearn described the potential reunion as a dream scenario that would significantly bolster both the promotional outfit and the streaming platform.
Hearn highlighted the appeal of potential matchups for Alvarez within the Matchroom and DAZN roster, particularly pointing out Jaime Munguia, who recently secured a victory over John Ryder, and Edgar Berlanga as viable contenders. According to Hearn, Alvarez seeks opponents who are genuinely ambitious about winning, a criterion he felt was lacking in his fight against Charlo.
The shift of PBC’s broadcast partnership from Showtime to Amazon Prime, a direct competitor to DAZN in the streaming domain, adds another layer to the narrative. Hearn emphasized his commitment to facilitating high-caliber fights for Alvarez, hinting at a possible May return for the undisputed super middleweight champion.
