Devin Haney is exploring new options at welterweight after negotiations with Rolando Romero failed to materialize.
Haney, now competing at 147lbs after defeating Brian Norman Jr. for the WBO title, had been in discussions for a unification bout with Romero. However, talks broke down, prompting Haney to publicly address the situation.
“Rolly [is] delusional acting like he some kind of draw but can’t sell out a ballroom. Thats why the fight hasn’t been made yet. The money isn’t right. I’m looking at other options he can go fight his mandatory since he’s such a draw.”
With Romero currently holding the WBA title and having a mandatory challenger in Shakhram Giyasov, attention may now shift elsewhere. A rematch with Ryan Garcia remains a leading option following their overturned 2023 bout, while other unification opportunities in the division are also available.
