An exciting all-Boricua title fight is set to take place as part of the biggest boxing card Puerto Rico has seen in years. Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez will defend his WBO junior flyweight title against Rene Santiago, with the fight confirmed to be on the undercard of the Amanda Serrano-Nina Meinke featherweight championship. This event, taking place on March 2 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, will be streamed live on DAZN.

The Gonzalez-Santiago bout, a much-anticipated title consolidation fight, was ordered by the WBO last November. This matchup not only brings together two skilled fighters but also holds significant meaning as it’s set to occur in their home country. Gonzalez, managed by Serrano, will be defending his title for the third time since his victory over Elwin Soto in October 2021. Despite recent setbacks due to illness and canceled fights, Gonzalez is ready to make a statement in the ring.

Santiago, holding the interim WBO junior flyweight title, comes off a surprising 12th-round knockout victory over previously unbeaten Kevin Vivas. This win earned him the interim title and set the stage for the upcoming bout with Gonzalez. Both fighters will be returning to fight in Puerto Rico after a considerable time, adding a layer of excitement for local fans.

Gonzalez, a veteran southpaw from Caguas, has a career record of 27-3-1 with 14 KOs and last fought in November 2022. Santiago, known for his power and a record of 12-3 with 9 KOs, has not fought in Puerto Rico since January 2020, making this upcoming fight a homecoming of sorts.
