Gennadiy Golovkin appearing alongside Abel Sanchez in Cairo has quickly fueled speculation that one final fight could still be possible. Tom Loeffler shared a photo from Egypt after Oleksandr Usyk’s win over Rico Verhoeven, showing himself with Golovkin and Sanchez together again. “Great trip to Cairo capped off by this photo at the airport with GGG and Abel Sanchez. We accomplished so much together,” Loeffler wrote.
The moment stood out because Golovkin and Sanchez split in 2019 after a long and successful run that helped turn GGG into one of boxing’s biggest stars. Sanchez had guided him through his rise as a feared middleweight champion, but the partnership ended suddenly after Golovkin signed his DAZN deal.
At the time, Sanchez did not hide his frustration, saying the breakup came because “big contracts create greed in ungrateful, dishonorable people.” Years later, he also said the two had “no contact” after the split, which makes the Cairo reunion feel more meaningful.
Golovkin has already been linked to comeback rumors, and his presence at the Usyk-Verhoeven event as a guest of Turki Alalshikh only added to the talk. Nothing has been announced and no comeback has been publicly discussed, but seeing GGG and Sanchez together again naturally raises the question of whether one last fight could bring their story full circle.
