Gervonta Davis appears close to confirming his return to the ring, with reports indicating that negotiations are advanced for a rematch against Isaac Cruz. The potential bout would mark Davis’ first fight since March 2025.

In his last appearance, Davis fought to a majority decision draw against Lamont Roach while defending his WBA lightweight title. The result proved controversial, with many observers believing Roach had done enough to win the fight, particularly after a knockdown was not counted when Davis voluntarily took a knee in the ninth round.

The months following the bout created uncertainty about Davis’ future in the sport. A planned exhibition fight with Jake Paul in November was cancelled after Davis became involved in a civil lawsuit related to domestic allegations. The situation escalated further when an arrest warrant was later issued over similar accusations.

As the issues unfolded, Davis was stripped of his WBA lightweight title. However, the Baltimore fighter now appears poised for a comeback as discussions progress for a fight with Cruz.

Davis previously defeated Cruz, who most recently fought to a majority decision draw against Lamont Roach in December.
