Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi are set to fight for the vacant WBA lightweight title after Gervonta Davis was removed from the immediate championship picture.
The WBA placed Davis into Champion in Recess status and ordered its No. 1 and No. 2 contenders to meet for the belt. Davis had previously been reinstated as champion and directed to defend against Schofield, but that process has now been abandoned.
Schofield said Bahdi and Most Valuable Promotions have one week remaining to reach an agreement before the fight moves toward a purse bid.
Bahdi’s manager, Phil Lo Greco, said his fighter has been waiting more than six months for the opportunity and is ready for the challenge.
“The WBA ordered the fight,” Lo Greco said. “Now it’s in the promoters’ hands to make it happen. They are currently working on it.”
