Floyd Schofield Sr. says his son is willing to accept less money to secure a rescheduled fight with Shakur Stevenson.
The pair were due to meet in February 2025, but the bout was cancelled after Schofield became ill and required hospitalization. He returned four months later with a first-round knockout of Tevin Farmer, before a wrist injury ruled him out of a planned fight with Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr.
With Schofield now facing another extended period of inactivity, his father wants the Stevenson matchup restored and is prepared to make financial concessions.
“We want the Shakur fight. We’ll take a pay cut,” Schofield Sr. said. “He could keep his belt. We want the fight.”
Schofield Sr. also rejected claims that his team avoided the original contest, arguing that the medical issue had been clearly established. He said both sides should put their previous disputes behind them and either make the fight or move on.
Schofield remains unbeaten and highly ranked by the WBA, but his father believes securing a major opponent is now essential after injuries and cancellations stalled the 23-year-old’s momentum.
