Floyd Mayweather has recalled an old sparring session between Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney as talks continue over a possible fight between the two.
Davis is expected to return later this year after a long spell of inactivity, and Haney has emerged as one of the names linked to him. The matchup would not be the first time they have shared a ring.
Haney sparred Davis when he was just 16 years old, and footage from the session later became widely discussed among boxing fans. Mayweather, who guided Davis during the early years of his career, said the work between them was memorable.
“Tank boxed Devin Haney and Devin Haney was in good shape,” Mayweather said. “Tank wasn’t in good shape but they worked. It was some crazy work.”
Davis has fought only four times in four years and has not won since June 2024. He had been linked to a possible shot at his old WBA lightweight title against Floyd Schofield, but a move toward Haney could take him in a different direction.
Haney currently holds the WBO welterweight title after defeating Brian Norman Jr by unanimous decision in November. He has also previously won world titles at lightweight and super lightweight.
