Edgar Berlanga is confident that he can secure a rematch with Canelo Alvarez within a year and a half. Following his loss to the Mexican superstar, Berlanga believes a victory over Jaime Munguia will be the stepping stone he needs to capture one of the super middleweight titles and set up a second fight with Canelo. Berlanga has his sights on becoming a pay-per-view draw, insisting that a bout against Munguia would generate significant interest.
However, many in the boxing world doubt whether a rematch with Canelo is realistic, given Berlanga’s performance in their first encounter, where Canelo won a decisive unanimous decision on September 14th in Las Vegas. The judges scored the fight 118-109, 117-110, and 118-109 in favor of Canelo, with Berlanga showing he was outmatched throughout the 12 rounds.
"I know we can get that rematch in a year and a half, and I know for a fact that I can beat him for sure," Berlanga said to Sway’s Universe, expressing optimism despite the odds being stacked against him. Still, many observers believe Berlanga would need to take on top contenders like Caleb Plant, Diego Pacheco, or Osleys Inglesias to strengthen his case for another shot at Canelo.

Berlanga’s current focus is Jaime Munguia, another popular Mexican fighter, who he believes would help build his PPV profile. "Right now, Caleb [Plant] is on the radar, but I want Munguia. That fight would do big PPV numbers," said Berlanga.
While Berlanga insists that Canelo respects him and the numbers they generated in their first fight, it’s clear that capturing a world title might be a prerequisite for any potential rematch. "I think I’ll have to go out there and capture a world title. If I grab a title, I believe we can make it happen," Berlanga added.
For now, Berlanga remains focused on his future, claiming he’s destined to become a “PPV King" and the "Face of Boxing." But to achieve those lofty goals, he’ll need to prove himself in the ring against the top talent in the super middleweight division.
