Fresh off claiming the WBO heavyweight title, Fabio Wardley is already attracting challengers, with one familiar name pushing for a shot at his first defence.
Croatian heavyweight Filip Hrgovic has now done exactly that. Speaking to BoxNation after Agit Kabayel’s win over Damian Knyba in Germany, Hrgovic outlined why he believes Wardley represents a favourable matchup.
“I have the best chin in the division. I proved that,” Hrgovic said. “He can’t knock me out and I think I’m the better fighter. I’m bigger, I’m better, more experienced and I believe I can beat him. He has a voluntary defence, so we’ll see what’s going to happen.”
Hrgovic enters the conversation with renewed momentum after back-to-back stoppage wins over David Adeleye and Joe Joyce which steadied his career following a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in June 2024.
Adding extra intrigue, Hrgovic referenced a sparring session with Wardley from several years ago, claiming the Brit required hospital treatment afterward. While acknowledging Wardley’s improvement since then, Hrgovic framed a potential title bout as both a chance for Wardley to settle old business and for himself to prove he belongs at the very top.
