Chris Eubank Jr. is facing legal proceedings from both the British Boxing Board of Control and Matchroom Boxing after comments he made at a September press conference promoting his upcoming rematch with Conor Benn. Eubank alleged that Matchroom representatives delayed his ambulance’s exit from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by more than 20 minutes following their first bout. “They will screw over anyone, they will cut any corners, they will walk over anyone and break any rules to try and get ahead,” Eubank said. “They did everything they could to try and destroy me in the last fight.”
Last week, Eubank posted a 10-second video showing his ambulance struggling to leave the venue amid chaotic scenes. However, reports indicate the delay stemmed from a communication issue between the stadium’s ambulance bay and control staff, unrelated to Matchroom or the BBBoC. Promoter Eddie Hearn dismissed the accusations, stating, “There is a log of procedures for every fight, when ambulances arrived, when they left. What he accused us of is unforgettable. When we’re a company as serious as we are, trust me, we’ll deal with that.”
Following that first encounter the fighter was transported to Royal London Hospital, roughly seven miles away, and arrived less than 45 minutes after leaving the ring. He was treated for severe dehydration and facial cuts before being discharged two days later. The original bout, first scheduled for October 2022, was cancelled when Benn twice tested positive for the banned substance clomifene, delaying their rivalry for over two years.
Eubank has often reignited that controversy in public, including smashing an egg into Benn’s face to reference a WBC hearing that linked clomifene findings to egg consumption—an act that cost him a £100,000 fine. He also lost an estimated $500,000 for narrowly missing the 160-pound limit by 0.05 pounds before the first fight and was fined an additional £10,000 for posting footage of himself in heat suits, deemed a “misuse of social media” by the BBBoC.
