Talks are underway for a potential fight between Jaron “Boots” Ennis and Xander Zayas, with Top Rank president Todd Duboef confirming the matchup is being considered as a backup option for Ennis’ next bout.
The development comes amid uncertainty surrounding Ennis’ immediate future, particularly with a proposed fight against Vergil Ortiz Jr. yet to be secured. With that situation unresolved, alternative opponents are being explored.
Duboef acknowledged the fight as a legitimate possibility, emphasizing both interest and ongoing communication. Zayas has remained active and visible, building momentum with appearances in New York, while also expressing interest in a unification bout with IBF champion Josh Kelly. That option is viewed as a more natural step, given his current trajectory.
Despite the discussions, no agreement has been reached, and other plans for both fighters remain in motion.
