Eddie Hearn says Anthony Joshua’s fight with Tyson Fury could collapse if organizers announce New York as the venue without first reaching an agreement with Team Joshua.
Hearn says both he and Joshua still want the fight staged in the United Kingdom, as specified in their contract, despite pressure from Netflix, Turki Alalshikh and others to move the event to the United States.
“We wouldn’t have signed the contract if the fight was in America,” Hearn said. “So, we have to have a discussion around that.”
According to Hearn, organizers recently informed them that they wanted to announce New York as the location. He responded by warning that they could not do so without changing the existing agreement.
“If they announce that fight without an agreement in place to change the venue, there will be no fight,” Hearn said. “We ain’t bluffing.”
Hearn added that Joshua’s side would demand significant compensation to agree to a US venue, partly in the hope that the cost of changing the deal would convince organizers to keep the fight in Britain.
