Christian Mbilli’s team has sent a bold warning to Canelo Alvarez ahead of their potential September 12 showdown, insisting the WBC super middleweight champion is not entering the fight just to survive.
Mbilli’s manager, Camille Estephan, publicly backed his fighter to do what no one has done before: stop Canelo. “Don’t bet your house on it,” Estephan wrote when discussing the matchup. “M’Billi will stop Canelo.”
Alvarez has lost before, but he has never been stopped, therefore this is a major statement. Estephan added that the fight would bring “fireworks,” framing Mbilli as a dangerous champion ready for the biggest night of his career.
Mbilli has long targeted Canelo and previously said he wanted the fight to prove he is the best in the division. “I would love to fight him to show that I’m the best of the division,” Mbilli said. “I want to prove it in the ring.”
The Canadian-based champion still faces questions after his draw with Lester Martinez, but his team chose not to take an immediate rematch and instead held position as the title picture shifted. A Martinez rematch could still be there later, but Canelo represents the bigger opportunity.
