Dmitry Bivol’s WBO light heavyweight title defense against mandatory challenger Callum Smith is increasingly likely to take place in Russia.
Eddie Hearn previously mentioned Britain, Monaco and Russia as possible locations but now believes Bivol’s home country is the leading option.
“I think more likely it will be in Russia,” Hearn said. “Callum is happy to travel; he’s done it before.”
The two sides failed to reach an agreement before the WBO deadline, meaning the fight will now go to a purse bid on August 27 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Smith earned his mandatory position by defeating Joshua Buatsi by unanimous decision in February 2025.
