Derek Chisora blasts trainer Ben Davison following Moses Itauma’s ninth-round defeat to Filip Hrgovic.
Itauma started well but faded as the fight progressed before being stopped by Hrgovic, missing his opportunity to become heavyweight world champion. Chisora questioned both Itauma’s level and Davison’s work in the corner.
“Moses is OK, when you box taxi-drivers, but when you’re boxing a real guy who was coming to win, we are both on the same level,” Chisora said on the Fight Your Corner podcast.
He then turned his criticism toward Davison, pointing to a difficult run of results involving several of his fighters. “His trainer is s&^%,” Chisora said, referencing defeats suffered by Pat McCormack, Fabio Wardley, Jeamie Tshikeva, Anthony Joshua and now Itauma.
Davison has faced a tough 2026 at heavyweight, with Wardley losing his WBO title to Daniel Dubois and Tshikeva also suffering defeat before Itauma’s loss to Hrgovic.
He will have an opportunity to reverse one of those results on October 17, when Wardley faces Dubois in a rematch for the WBO heavyweight title.
