Another setback has hit this weekend’s card headlined by Subriel Matias vs. Dalton Smith at the Barclays Center in New York, as the scheduled co-feature between Hendri Cedeño and Alfredo Santiago has been called off.
BoxingScene confirmed that Cedeño was denied medical clearance by the New York State Athletic Commission, forcing the cancellation of the 10-round junior welterweight bout. According to sources familiar with the situation, the issue stemmed from Cedeño’s eye exam, which could not be resolved in time for the fight to proceed.
With the decision coming late in the week, event organizers were unable to secure a replacement opponent for Santiago. As a result, the pay-per-view card airing on PPV.com has been reduced to six fights.
The reshuffled lineup had already taken a previous hit, as Victor Efrain Sandoval was brought in as a late substitute to face Jeyvier Cintron, after Jonathan Gonzalez failed to obtain a U.S. visa in time.
