Canelo Alvarez has confirmed his return to the ring, as he is preparing for a major comeback event titled “Mexico Against The World”, scheduled for September 12 in Riyadh. The 35-year-old will headline the show himself, marking the first promotion staged under the banner of Canelo Promotions.

The announcement comes four months after Alvarez suffered a unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford in September, where he lost his WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine super middleweight titles. It was only the third loss of Alvarez’s long professional career, and he has made clear his intention to reassert himself on the world stage.

Alvarez appeared alongside Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh to confirm the event, describing it as a showcase pitting Mexican fighters against international opposition. “The 12th of September, a big, big fight,” Alvarez said. “This will be the first card for Canelo Promotions. All the fighters from the team of Canelo against the world.”

While Alvarez confirmed he will headline the card in a world title fight, no opponent has yet been named. He added that the challenger would be “a surprise,” leaving open speculation about whether the former undisputed champion will immediately pursue a route back to championship gold.
