Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is using his time away from the ring in an unexpected way, enrolling in college as he recovers from elbow surgery ahead of a planned return in September.
The 35-year-old Mexican star announced on Instagram that he has joined the San Diego University for Integrative Studies, sharing a photo from his first day with the caption: “It’s never too late to start.”
Alvarez left school at a young age to support his family and turned professional at just 15, building a career that has spanned two decades. Now, with his legacy already secured in the ring, he appears focused on preparing for life beyond boxing.
In the image posted online, Alvarez humorously wrote that he wants to be a “Businessman” when he grows up. Listed as part of the “Class of 2027,” his enrollment suggests a short-term academic plan, but one aimed at gaining knowledge to manage his future after boxing.
