Callum Walsh’s rise under the TKO Boxing banner continues to gather momentum, and on September 13 he’ll take the biggest stage of his career when he meets Fernando Vargas Jr. in the chief support to Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford.
Walsh has been earmarked as a future star by Dana White and Turki Alalshikh, and so far, his matchmaking has allowed him to build an unbeaten record with plenty of highlight-reel knockouts. The 24-year-old Irishman has thrived under the spotlight, but his appearance on the year’s biggest boxing card raises the stakes higher than ever.
Vargas Jr. brings his own pedigree as the son of former two-time world champion Fernando Vargas. Like Walsh, he has proven himself a dangerous puncher, though it’s his younger brother Emiliano who is widely regarded as the more technically polished member of the family. For Fernando, this fight represents a chance to step out of that shadow and prove his power and determination can carry him further.
For Walsh, however, the matchup is a calculated risk. With the eyes of the boxing world on Las Vegas, a decisive victory could propel him into genuine stardom. But with both men owning heavy hands and unblemished records, this contest promises far more jeopardy than the standard showcase bout.
