The long-running negotiations between Callum Smith and David Morrell have once again produced an agreement with WBO officials confirming that a scheduled purse bid hearing for their ordered interim light heavyweight title fight has been canceled after all parties reached terms.

WBO president Gustavo Olivieri announced that written confirmation had been received from Matchroom Boxing and Warriors Boxing/PBC, stating that a deal is in place and an event date has been secured. While no further details were provided regarding the location or timing, officials confirmed that a formal announcement is forthcoming.

Smith, the current WBO interim titleholder, has not fought since his February 2025 points win over Joshua Buatsi in Riyadh, where he captured the secondary belt. His inactivity has largely stemmed from repeated delays tied to this very matchup, which was first ordered last July following Morrell’s narrow victory over Imam Khataev in New York.

Morrell, promoted by Warriors Boxing on behalf of Premier Boxing Champions, previously held interim WBA titles at both super middleweight and light heavyweight. He surrendered the latter in a unanimous decision loss to David Benavidez last February in Las Vegas, marking the lone defeat of his career.
