Premier Boxing Champions is working toward a May 31 show in Las Vegas, headlined by interim WBA super middleweight titleholder Caleb Plant. Sources tell that while negotiations are ongoing, neither Plant’s participation nor his opponent has been finalized. Plant, a former IBF champion at 168 pounds, earned his interim status by stopping Trevor McCumby in nine rounds last September. He initially lost his IBF belt to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2021.
Edgar Berlanga, fresh off a knockout victory on March 15, has publicly called for a fight with Plant. A source close to Berlanga says he might be back in September against either Plant, Jermall Charlo, or Jaime Munguia. One insider also notes that Charlocould potentially appear on the May 31 card, which would mark his first bout since losing his WBC middleweight title last year following legal troubles.
This new card replaces PBC’s scrapped May 3 event, which originally aimed to feature Canelo Alvarez at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Alvarez is instead launching a four-fight agreement in Saudi Arabia, beginning May 3 against IBF champion William Scull, with further plans to face Terence Crawford on September 13.
