Yesterday at the Hialeah Park Racing & Casino in Hialeah, Florida, former world champion Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux (21-3, 14 KOs) fought against Jesus Martinez (33-18-1, 16 KOs).

As a result of the bout, Rigondeaux looked great as he defeated veteran Jesus Martinez by first-round knockout in a fight with a planned 10 rounds.

With his quick first-round knockout of Martinez, Rigondeaux declared after the fight that he wants a championship chance at 122 pounds, but he'll need to keep winning in order to obtain that opportunity.

The gifted 42-year-old Cuban southpaw Rigondeux appeared to have found the legendary fountain of youth as he picked up his first victory in three years since 2020 by destroying the 42-year-old Martinez and dropping him twice before the referee waved it off.

After a one-year break, Rigondeaux teed up on Colombian Martinez, repeatedly hitting him with left punches to the head that he was powerless to avoid. Martinez was cornered before being taken down by a right-left combination from Rigondeaux.

As the bout continued, Rigondeux pushed Martinez to the other corner before striking him in the head with a strong left. Martinez suffered severe injuries, which prompted the referee to intervene and call time on the fight.
