In the ProBox TV main event yesterday in Plant City, Florida, Jesus Saracho (13-1, 11 KOs) squared off with Cesar Francis (12-1, 7 KOs).
The fight was scored closely by two judges in favor of Mexico-born Saracho, but by the third judge, the score was substantially wider at 98-92.
Being the more aggressive of the two in the middle rounds allowed Saracho, who has now won three straight matches since his lone loss to Deonte Brown in the ninth round nearly a year ago, to gain enough of a lead to hold off Francis' powerful tenth round.
Saracho sped up his work rate and pushed forward with combinations while Francis tried to end the bout with one punch. When Saracho pushed on the throttle and forced Francis to the ropes in round 8, landing straight lefts that cut Francis' jaw open, the seriousness of the situation became apparent.
Francis responded in the tenth round, jumping on his toes and landing straight right punches from range for the first time since the opening rounds, with Francis' trainer Francisco Guzman Jr. pleading with him to work. The Panamanian-born, Brooklyn-raised Francis suffered his first professional loss.
