Andy Ruiz Jr. has weighed in at 254.3 pounds ahead of his September 4 fight with Damian Knyba at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, marking his lightest weight in eight years.
Ruiz, 36, has not been this light since weighing 252 pounds for his July 2018 victory over Kevin Johnson. He was considerably heavier during his two career-defining fights with Anthony Joshua in 2019, coming in at 268 pounds for their first meeting and 283.7 pounds for the rematch.
The former unified heavyweight champion has fought only three times since losing the rematch to Joshua, defeating Chris Arreola and Luis Ortiz before drawing with Jarrell Miller in August 2024. Ruiz suffered a broken hand in the Miller fight and has not competed since.
For this comeback, Ruiz has reunited with trainer Manny Robles, who was in his corner for the upset victory over Joshua at Madison Square Garden.
Knyba weighed 255.5 pounds, leaving only a small difference between the two heavyweights despite the Pole standing 6-foot-7 and holding a significant height and reach advantage.
The fight will also mark Ruiz’s first appearance under the Matchroom Boxing banner, with the former champion looking to show he can still make another serious run in the heavyweight division.
