Alycia Baumgardner, the undisputed super featherweight world champion, has announced the lifting of her suspension by the Association of Boxing Commissions. After an exhaustive eight-month investigation related to anti-doping, Baumgardner shared the news on social media that the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission (UCC) has cleared her to resume her boxing career.
The suspension initially stemmed from a positive drug test for mesterolone leading up to her scheduled title defense against Christina Linardatou in July 2023. The revelation of the positive test in August had put Baumgardner’s career on pause, casting a shadow over her achievements and the super featherweight titles she’s held since November 2021.
Despite the setback, Baumgardner consistently proclaimed her innocence throughout the UCC's inquiry and additional scrutiny by international bodies. In January, a separate investigation by the WBC found Baumgardner not guilty of intentionally ingesting the banned substance, allowing her to keep her WBC title.
Baumgardner expressed her resilience and faith amid the controversy in a recent social media post, stating, “Through trials and tribulations, I’ve stayed true to my faith in Jesus Christ.” She reflected on her strength and integrity in the face of adversity, emphasizing her determination to continue shining brightly in her boxing career.
The announcement of her suspension being lifted coincidentally on International Women's Day, Baumgardner highlighted as a significant victory.
