On Friday, June 9, boxing enthusiasts were treated to a thrilling night of fights. Headlining the York Hall card in London was WBO European Heavyweight Champion, David Adeleye (12-0, 11 KOs), making his first title defense against the powerful Serbian, Emir Ahmatovic (12-2, 9 KOs). The co-main event also featured a highly anticipated 10-round IBF European Lightweight Championship contest between Mark Chamberlain (13-0, 9 KOs) and Marvin Demollari (12-5, 2 KOs). In the other event, the 360 Promotions Hollywood Fight Night series featured Irish super welterweight prospect, ‘King’ Callum Walsh (7-0, 6 KOs), squaring off against Carson Jones (43-16-3, 31 KOs) from Oklahoma City.
Adeleye dominated Ahmatovic from the opening bell, establishing a strong jab that quickly swelled the Serbian's right eye. However, the fight was not without its skirmishes, as both fighters received a talking to by the referee following illegal hits. Despite enduring a counter-hook from Ahmatovic in the fourth round, Adeleye stayed on course. Ahmatovic's condition deteriorated rapidly, resulting in his corner throwing in the towel at the end of the fifth round. Thus, “Big D” from Ladbroke Grove successfully defended his title.
The Chamberlain vs. Demollari fight ended in a swift victory for Chamberlain, who scored three knockdowns within the first round. Some controversy ensued due to the referee allowing some questionable shots from Chamberlain and permitting the fight to continue despite Demollari's unstable state after the third knockdown. The fight ended with the referee stepping in, and Demollari's corner throwing in the towel simultaneously.
In the United States, Callum Walsh put on an impressive performance against veteran Carson Jones, leading the fight from the get-go. He connected solid combinations, showcasing his speed and prowess, eventually making Jones’ face a bloody mess and dropping him in the fourth round. Walsh took home the WBC US Silver welterweight title, with referee Eddie Hernandez waving off the fight at 2:59 of the fourth round.
In supporting bouts, Michael Biramontes (7-1, 4 KOs) secured a unanimous decision victory over Pablo Melgar (6-3-1, 4 KOs) after an intensely contested six-round fight. Meanwhile, Umar Dzambekov (5-0, 4 KOs) earned a third-round knockout victory against Crispulo Javier Andino (24-15-1, 12 KOs) of Argentina, further cementing an exhilarating night of boxing.
