Ryan Garcia made headlines not only for his stunning upset over Devin Haney but also for winning a massive personal bet. Garcia, who entered the fight as a clear underdog, confirmed via Instagram that he placed a $2 million wager on himself, which paid out a whopping $12 million. This bold move added significantly to his earnings from the fight, “If you bet, BET ON YOURSELF.”
The fight, held on Saturday in Brooklyn, New York, saw Garcia defeat Haney, the previously unbeaten lightweight champion, in a majority decision. Garcia's performance was dominant, knocking Haney down three times and landing significantly more power punches, according to CompuBox stats.
The betting saga didn't end with Garcia. Former NFL star LeSean McCoy and UFC fighter Israel Adesanya also placed bets on the fight, with McCoy losing $250,000 and Adesanya $20,000 on their picks for Haney.
