Ángel Ayala Lardizabal (born 11 May 2000) is a Mexican professional boxer who competed in the flyweight division. Known by his nickname “Camaleón”, Ayala held the IBF flyweight title from 2024 to 2025. Standing at 5 ft 6 in with a 66-inch reach, he is recognized for his combination of speed, technique, and resilience in the ring.
Ayala made his professional debut in 2019 with a second-round stoppage victory and quickly rose through the Mexican circuit. He captured his first regional belt, the WBC FECARBOX flyweight title, in October 2020 with a knockout win over Luis Castro. Over the next two years, he picked up further titles, including the ABF Continental Americas belt, while defeating experienced contenders like Cristofer Rosales in a WBC title eliminator, which firmly established him among the division’s rising stars.
In October 2023, Ayala defeated former world champion Felix Alvarado to earn a shot at the vacant IBF flyweight championship. The following year, on 9 August 2024, he stopped Dave Apolinario in Mexico City to become the IBF world champion. However, his reign was short-lived, as he suffered his first career defeat in March 2025, when he was stopped in the 12th round by Japan’s Masamichi Yabuki, losing his world title in the process.
