Biography

Alem Begic is a German professional boxer and current WBO European super-middleweight champion. Born on 7 March 1987 in Munich, Germany, Begic first established himself in combat sports through kickboxing before transitioning into amateur and eventually professional boxing.

Begic began his combat sports career in 2002 as a kickboxer, training at the renowned Steko’s Sportcenter in Munich. Within two years, he completed 15 kickboxing fights before switching to amateur boxing in 2004. During his amateur career, he competed against several high-level opponents, including future Olympian and WBA Intercontinental champion Enrico Kölling and Bosnian standout Dzemal Bosnjak. He represented respected clubs such as TSV 1860 München, BSK Seelze in Germany’s Bundesliga, and BK Radnik Bijeljina in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Premier League. Across national and international amateur competitions, Begic compiled an impressive record of 84 wins and 2 draws in 102 fights.

Begic made his professional debut at the age of 27 on 22 November 2014, defeating Stelian Anghelus Voicu in Srebrenica. As his career progressed, he gained recognition for his fearless style and willingness to engage opponents aggressively inside the ring. In his 17th professional fight, he earned a notable points victory over Ukrainian boxer Artem Redko in Dortmund despite reportedly suffering from a flu infection during the contest.

Throughout his professional career, Begic has fought on major boxing events featuring world title fights, including cards headlined by Felix Sturm against Fedor Chudinov and Marco Huck against Mairis Briedis. His breakout achievement came on 9 June 2018, when he defeated Serbian fighter Nenad Stankovic by technical knockout to capture the IBF European light-heavyweight title. Following an extended period away from the ring, he returned with another stoppage victory over Bosko Misic, winning by fifth-round technical knockout.

In 2019, Begic fought for the WBO Intercontinental super-middleweight title in a contest that ended in a controversial draw. Later that year, on 10 December 2019, he achieved one of the biggest victories of his career by defeating American boxer John Rene to win the IBO International light-heavyweight title. The victory secured him a place among the world’s top 15-ranked fighters at the time. Both championship bouts were staged at the luxury Bio-Hotel Stanglwirt near Kitzbühel and attracted significant celebrity attention, while the IBO title fight was also part of a charity event that raised €20,000 for the organization Kleine Helden e.V. / Tribute to Bambi Stiftung.
